Guest blog: Lothian Buses on Edinburgh’s Christmas

7th Dec 2016

We spoke to our travel partners at Lothian Buses, who offered us their Edinburgh Christmas Top Tips...

It’s fair to say that Lothian Buses loves Christmas with its gold Santa bus out and about across the city and its best ever special Christmas & New Year timetable designed to make sure passengers can still get to where they need to be this festive season.

Local knowledge is invaluable at this time of year and the Travelshop staff and Edinburgh Bus Tours team know a thing or two about where to head to experience the best of Christmas in Edinburgh.

Here are some of their top tips:

Jeanette, who can give you up to date information about all the Christmas timetables: ‘At Christmas time I always like to visit the Edinburgh Christmas market as it caters for everyone in my family. My daughter who is 10 loves the Star Flyer, ice skating and the big wheel. My son who is 3 loves Santa Land and the Santa Train. We also love a walk round the German Market with a little cup of mulled wine for the adults. A great family day out.’

David, who will advise your best ticket options over the Christmas period: ‘There’s nothing better on a winter’s day in Edinburgh than having a stroll through the Christmas market and swiftly making a beeline to the nearest hot toddy stall. Edinburgh at Christmas time means you are never stuck for something to do- ice skating, rides or just having a wander trying to find wee stocking fillers for friends.’

Kenny, who looks after Edinburgh Bus Tours: ‘In Edinburgh at Christmas I enjoy a walk through the arboretum at the Botanic gardens with my wife then stopping off at the café at the west gate for a hot chocolate and a cake.

Caroline, who will ensure you are informed about the best bus routes to take to get you to our festive events:  ‘At Christmas in Edinburgh I love going to see the Christmas tree at Jenners then walking through the gardens with a gingerbread latte. The day is completed with a carol service at St Giles cathedral.’

Andy, who ensures our Edinburgh Bus Tours leave on time: ‘I recommend going to the Dome in Edinburgh at Christmas, a steak dinner with the family under the beautiful festive lights.’

Barbara, who can tell you all about our Ridacard product: ‘The best part of Edinburgh’s Christmas is going to see the street of light. It is in George Street this year and I am really looking forward to seeing it with my friends. We will then head along to the Dome for a festive drink and then a spin on the big wheel.’

To meet the teams, take a tour or find out information about bus travel this Christmas, head to one of the city centre Travelshops on Waverley Bridge, Hanover Street or at Haymarket.
